Optimist

The Optimist is the primary boat used locally by younger and begining junior sailors (normally 12 and younger). It is a 7' 9" single handed (1 sailor), 1 sail (main) pram. It is recommended that Optimist sailors weight less that 120lbs.

Club 420

The Club 420 is the primary boat used locally for older junior sailors (normally 12+). It is a 13' 9" double handed (2 sailors), 3 sail (main, jib, spinaker) boat. It is recommended that skipper and crew have a combined weight greater than 200 lbs.

Other Boats

While the Optiimist and Club 420 are the most prevalent boats in ECSA junior programs and racing, each program in ECSA has the felxibility to choose boats that are most suitable for their needs. Check with your local junior program to find out what boats are being used in near you!
