ECSA SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP
ECSA tracks junior sailor's racing results each season and awards trophies for those with the best scores in the following categories:
420 Overall (top 3)
420 Girls Team (top 3)
Optimist Red (top 5)
Optimist White (top 5)
Optimist Blue (top 5)
Optimist Top Girl (top 3)
Awards are presented at the annual ECSA Junior Awards Event.
Each ECSA Junior Program junior regatta is a qualifying event with the exceptions that:
Green Fleet
Fun Regatta
Team Racing
results do not qualify for season scoring.
Number of races to qualify
420 Fleet: 3 races
Optimist Fleets (Red, White, Blue, Girls): 5 races
If a sailor does not sail the number of races indicated, s/he is not eligible to win a season award, unless there are not enough sailors with enough races to qualify. In that case sailors with the next highest number of races can be eligible. Position is calculated using the sum of the best points earned at the required number of regattas. Meaning the best five scores for Optimist, three for 420. The result of this is you are eligible for an award after sailing the required number of races. Sailing additional races in addition to the required number can improve a sailors position if s/he does well or in larger fleets. Doing poorly cannot hurt your score.
Points Calculation for season awards
If a junior regatta is multiple day, each day's overall score will count as a separate event for ECSA Junior Season Scoring.
Season Scoring is a high points scoring system. Final season points are the sum of the best four events for a sailor.
Points for each event are calculated as:
Points are rounded to the nearest one hundreth of a point (two decimmal places) in each event. Season scores ties will be broken by the sailor with the highest regatta score. If the tie remains we will repeat for second highest.
Points Awarded = F + N * F / 500
Where:
P = High Score Points (number of boats you finished ahead of +1)
N = Number of boats in fleet
F = Finish percentage (P / N * 100)

Example 1:
Fleet Size: 65 Finish Position: 3rd in fleet
Finish Percent = 63 / 65 * 100 = 97
Points Awarded = 97 + 65 * 97 / 500 = 110

Fleet Size: 45 Finish Position: 2nd in fleet
Finish Percent = 44 / 45 * 100 = 98
Points Awarded = 98 + 45 * 98 / 500 = 107
